On the upcoming week, we’re already obliged to wear our
uniforms to school and that means it is official that the second semester has
started. Ugh! I miss those days were I just casually lie down on the sand
without a care in mind. Getting lost in the intricate maze sands create on its
depths. I miss Bantayan Island; I miss the smell of its breeze and its peace.
“Take me back,” I say.
Usually on a Sunday, I wake up earlier than 6am because we
would go to church with mum but today is different; I woke up early for an
event. Unfortunately, today is the opening of our MEBA league 2016—it is an
association curated for basketball-enthusiast mechanical engineering students.
I was one of the working committee so I was expected to arrive hours before the
program commences and one of my additional tasks was to transform one of the
muses into what a muse would look like. The program started and I was hanging
for dear life because I did not only cheer, but I also was the: stage manager,
choreographer, makeup artist, commentator, score tabulator and occasional
basketball player—I literally did play a little on the exhibition game against
our instructors so I am the type of bitch you can’t even. At the end of the
day, my body felt like it would just marry with the ground. I was tired, hungry
and hideous because of the hectic role I easily submit to; but all
energy-consuming activities set aside, we were all having fun. Organizing-wise
though, our program was a bit haywire but, hey, the audience didn’t even seem
to mind—considering the fact that most of them are men—because they came for
the game. “Ball is life,” they’d say.
