Japan Spring Lookbook
The minute I found out that we are going to Japan on the 20th of May 2018, I was like "I've had enough with crap fashion on my previous travels abroad!" Thank God my naive self didn't upload any trace of my fashion police salvage-worthy outfit during my previous wanders. The thing is, I was closeted back then, shy, and lacking of self-confidence; to put things into perspective, if you take a good long look of me back then and then look at me now, you can really say we're like twins but with completely opposite personalities. My taste of fashion back then was whack, I was very average and cringe-y–I can't even bring myself to imagine it but oh my god it was horrid. Currently, I'm doing patchworks over my terrible choices back then and hoping my ensembles now can compensate for the fact that I was styled by the great depression back then. It took me over a month to get this lookbook together and I can say there were looks that got booted and looks that were inspired from an initial ensemble I got in my mind, but got a glow-up along the process. I will include backstories in my ensembles so that you get a glimpse of my creative process when it comes to personal style.

This was my airport outfit by the time we arrived in Narita, I initially wore a mesh t-shirt and no jacket at all because I wasn't that cold inside the plane. By the time we disembarked from the plane, the cold spring breeze hit me and I was wearing mesh. I decided to pull this maroon turtleneck over my head, then popped this jacket on my back then called it a look, take a couple of shots and bam! This was one of the outfit that was in my first initial line up for my Japan lookbook, the only thing that I got rid off of it was its supposed tan sneakers. I was planning on having three shoes in my trolley, but my bag was already filled with a lot of clothes there was no room for anything.
Wharton's Businesswear Blazer. Fila Ribbed Shirt, Thrifter Php85. Pants. Nike Trainers. Gucci belt, imitation. |
Outfit #2
I wore this look when we went to Tokyo DisneySea. I know I was a bit too dark for Disney, but I'm not a Disney Princess so the pressure's definitely not on me. This outfit initially had no jacket incorporated in it, I wanted it to look casual. The day before we were scheduled to fly out to Japan, I was panicking already because I still lack certain elements on my looks. In a quick minute, I just snatched my blazer out of my closet then shove it in my suitcase and then go. When we arrived at Disney, it was hot so I took the blazer off and enjoyed it how it was before it got its glow-up. I took inspiration of this outfit over the suit and tie working policy in Japan, My sister joked asking me, "So where do you work?" while we were in the commute because I literally blended in the rush hour.
Gigi Amore jacquard kimono. Fila Ribbed Shirt, Php85. Gucci Belt, imitation. Pants. Nike Trainers. |
Outfit #3
It was that part of our vacation where we decided to go shrine hopping around Japan–We actually just visited one because we got tired that quick and that my mom is also tired from all the walking. I took inspiration of this outfit from a Japanese male kimono, although there was no Japanese element to this look at all. I kind of thought the jacquard kimono did the trick, but I'm not sure, you decide and let me know what you think in the comment section below.
Fila Ribbed Shirt, thrifted Php85. Gucci belt, imitation. Zara Man Pantsuit. Nike Trainers. |
Outfit #4
This was my shopping look, I was pulling a daddy's day out kind of look and dear I was feeling the fantasy! This was also one of the last minute looks that turned out good. We went to Ginza in this outfit and Ginza is the home of expensive boutiques so it wasn't rare spotting designer paper bags amongst the crowd. This one guy who was carrying a Gucci paper bag literally looked at me head-to-toe probably spotting the fake Gucci belt, but I paid no mind because I was definitely dressed ten times better than his pullovers and plain jeans. Backstory, I never went inside any Gucci boutique while wearing my fake Guccy because ya know, I was wearing faux.
That was all my Japan Spring lookbook outfits, if you want T on how I packed light over weeklong travels abroad and how to come up with looks that won't max out your allowable kgs for carry-ons. Let me know in the comments section below or on my instagram @thatarvee or twitter @thevogueengr because I want to help you out.
