When I came about a picture with a saying that goes “Grunge
is dead.” My initial reaction was that of being offended because how come the
very word that expresses raw emotion is thrown into the abyss of oblivion. Let
me share to you why grunge is a beautiful word: it is self-expressive, definite—in
a sense where when you ask every person what they think of grunge, they easily
come up with a picture in their minds—and a beat poetry. I think one of the
reason why grunge is already overlooked, it is because of the fact that we live
in a world where pop-culture is already dominant. Songs about body parts are in
the top charts while songs that pay tribute to our inner feelings are regarded
as cheesy, out-dated and low-budget recordings; and are, most of the time,
stashed along with those old vinyl records that house words that are meant to
touch the soul rather than touch our genitals. Grunge is not dead, never has
been, never will be.
